Power of Attorney

What is Power of Attorney?
There may come a point in life when you can't, or find it difficult to, manage your own banking. It could be due to a change in circumstances, like moving abroad, or it may be due to a change in your health.

Power of Attorney lets you arrange for someone you trust to manage your finances on your behalf.

There are different types of power of attorney:
General Power of Attorney - allows someone to manage your financial affairs at any time.
Lasting Power of Attorney - allows someone to manage your financial affairs on your behalf and continues if you lose your mental capacity.
Court of Protection - if someone is no longer able to make decisions for themselves, a Court of Protection Order would be required to allow someone to make decisions on their behalf.

Depending on the type of attorney, you may be given card access to the accounts and online banking access. For further information on this and what is required to register as a Power of Attorney please take a look at our factsheet
