The cover provided by your Santander Car Insurance policy is unaffected by the coronavirus pandemic. If you contact us, there may be longer waiting times than usual as we are working to keep our staff safe.

I’m worried that I might not be able to continue to make my payments – can you help?

Yes, we’re here to help. We’re aware that customers' livelihoods may have been impacted by the pandemic. If you think you might not be able to keep up your regular policy payments, please contact BISL as soon as possible on 0344 854 9822. BISL have specialists on hand who can discuss your individual circumstances and agree how to help with your financial situation. This may include moving your payment dates, agreeing partial payments or payment holidays in the short term and removing any fees applied to your policy.

Don’t wait until you miss a payment as BISL can help you in advance. Please don’t cancel your payments or Direct Debits as this can result in your policy being cancelled and we don’t want you to be left uninsured, please get in touch in the first instance.

My job doesn't let me work from home and I need to drive to it because of coronavirus – do I need to extend my cover?

No. If you now need to drive to your workplace, your insurance cover is still valid. You don’t need to contact us to change or extend your cover.

I’m volunteering during this time and using my own vehicle to help others get essentials – do I need to amend my Santander Car Insurance?

If you’re using your own private car for voluntary purposes to transport medicines or groceries to support others who are impacted by the pandemic, your cover isn’t affected and you don’t need to contact us.

I’m a key worker and I’m now using my vehicle for work purposes – do I need to amend my Santander Car Insurance?

If you’re a key worker and using your own car to drive to different locations for work purposes because of the impact of the pandemic, your cover isn’t affected and you don’t need to contact us.

Choose from fully comprehensive, third party fire and theft, and third party only cover. 
Fully comprehensive cover includes as standard:

  • cover if your car is stolen or damaged by fire or accident
  • windscreen replacement and 24/7 repair helpline
  • courtesy car while yours is being repaired by an approved repairer (subject to availability and eligibility)
  • driving in the EU: up to 60 days in any period of insurance (your cover will be the same as it is in the UK)
  • unlimited cover on manufacturer-fitted audio, sat nav and entertainment equipment
  • stolen keys cover – up to £500
  • personal belongings cover – up to £100
  • repair work cover – 3 year guarantee on all approved claims repairs.

Santander Car Insurance is subject to standard underwriting and acceptance criteria. Quotations are valid for 30 days. Cover is subject to terms, conditions, restrictions and exclusions. Following withdrawal from the EU on 31 January 2020, the UK has now moved into a transition period which will last until 31 December 2020. During this period, further talks with the EU will be held to agree any future arrangements that will need to be in place by the end of the year.

If you have an existing Santander Car Insurance policy (which is arranged and administered by BISL Limited) and you’ll be travelling to the EU before your policy ends, please read the guidance below:

  • If you’re travelling before 31 December 2020 and returning to the UK after 1 January 2021 - please contact BISL on 0344 854 9822 and they’ll arrange for a Green Card to be sent to you if one will be needed.
  • If you’re travelling after 1 January 2021 - please contact BISL 21 days before you travel on 0344 854 9822, and they’ll arrange for one to be sent to you if one will be needed.

Northern Ireland customers:
If the outcome is still unknown at the end of November 2020, BISL will issue a Green Card to all existing customers who have a live policy on 30 November 2020, with a policy end date after 1 January 2021, just in case it will be required. These will be posted out to you early December and will cover you up to the end of your policy.
