Plumbing insurance

See how we can help with those unexpected plumbing problems by adding home emergency cover to your home insurance policy.

What is plumbing insurance?

Plumbing and drainage cover is a handy extra you can add to your home insurance

Some insurance providers may also offer this as a standalone product.

A standard home insurance policy usually covers any damage to your home caused by plumbing and drainage issues, but you’ll have to sort any repairs yourself. You may also find that you won’t be covered for certain problems.

Pipes and drains can be unpredictable. Adding plumbing insurance to your policy can give you an extra layer of protection against those pesky plumbing problems. Not only will your home be covered against a wider range of problems, but you’ll often get quick help in an emergency.

What’s covered?

What’s covered by plumbing insurance can differ depending on the provider, but it usually includes:

  • blocked drains
  • leaking pipes
  • toilet blockages.

What’s not covered?

You may not be covered for:

  • general maintenance work
  • wear and tear
  • damage to showers.

Do I need plumbing insurance?

Whether you need plumbing insurance depends on your situation.

Taking out extra cover might be a good idea if you often find yourself in the middle of a plumbing disaster, or if you live in a home with older plumbing as things are more likely to go wrong.

You may also want to think about how much it might cost to fix any problems. Plumbing can be pricey, so taking out plumbing and drainage cover could save you money on repairs. Keep in mind that you will have to pay a monthly fee for cover.
