Android Pay

Pay with Android PayTM
You can use Android Pay by linking your Santander debit or credit card to your AndroidTM device. This will allow you to make secure payments with a wide range of Android devices at any contactless terminal and in-app with certain merchants.

What do I need to start using Android Pay?

  • Android Pay works with most NFC capable AndroidTM devices running Android 4.4 (KitKat®) or higher.
  • Download the Android Pay app from the Google Play Store.
  • Santander debit or credit card excluding ATM only cash cards, Visa Top-up Debit Card and Business VISA Electron Cards.

Getting started

  • Download – Download the Android Pay app from the Google Play Store.
  • Add a card – Tap the + sign within Android Pay – you may be prompted to set up a device lock if you don’t already have one. You can then use your device’s camera to scan in your Santander card details.
  • Verify – we’ll send you a code to enter into your device and Android Pay is ready to use.

Making a payment

  • Pay in shops – Using Android Pay at any contactless terminals is quick and secure. Just wake the device and hold it next to the contactless terminal. You may need to unlock the device for some transactions. Payments can be made up to any value although some retailers may still limit this to £30.
  • Pay in-app – Using Android Pay at in-app merchants is also quick and secure. You can pay where you see the "Buy with Android Pay" button.
  • Pay on TfL – Android Pay can be used for Transport for London transactions and is similar to using a contactless card by touching in and out of services. For more information on using Android Pay on Transport for London services, please visit Transport for London

Frequently asked questions

  • Yes. If you still want to carry your card you can use it to tap and pay with contactless whenever you want. Android Pay makes the Android Phone your card and so if you want to use Android Pay you hold your device to the contactless reader instead.

  • Just take your phone along with your receipt and whatever you want the refund on. Shops will be able to refund any purchase made with Android Pay under the same conditions as they would a purchase made with a card or cash.

  • You can manage your Android Pay linked cards within your Android device.

On your device, your cards and last 10 transactions can be seen in the app when you touch the card you used to pay.

You can change the default card within the app. To change this at any time touch and hold the card to be used as the default payment card, drag it up to the top of the card stack then release.

  • Yes, you can use Android Pay to pay for your journey but there are a few things to be aware of:
You need to use the same device to tap in and out of journeys so it's important the battery on your device will last the journey. Using different devices or payment methods will result in being charged the maximum fare.
If you keep a contactless or Oyster card in your phone case, you should remove it before touching your Android Phone on a yellow card reader. If you don’t, you could pay for your travel with a card you did not intend to pay with.
Not all transactions will appear immediately and in some cases may take a few days to be processed.
