Payments (inc making and stopping)

To stop a payment, for example a Direct Debit or a payment you've arranged yourself, please call Client Service on 0333 207 2229.

Please let us know as soon as possible for the best chance of the payment being stopped. We'll always do our best, but we can't always guarantee a payment can be stopped. For example, Faster Payments cannot be stopped once they've been instructed.

Please note that standing orders, Direct Debits and other payments can only be stopped if:

  1. they've not already been paid from your account,

  2. no commitment has been given to the payee's bank that the payment will be made, or

  3. you've given us adequate notice.


If you need to stop a cheque, we'll need the cheque number, amount, date and the payee's details.
