The Santander UK Quarterly Scamtracker highlights scammers’ latest top regions to target as £16.7 million is stolen in Q3 2025

  • The Santander Quarterly Scamtracker shows £16.7 million stolen from customers between July and September 2025, a 7% increase on the amounts published by the bank for Q2 2025
  • Surrey, Essex, Kent, Somerset, and West Sussex were this quarter’s top five regions by value of scams, with more than £2.85 million stolen by fraudsters
  • Outside of London, the region topping the chart this quarter was Surrey with more than £1 million stolen from customers – the first time the region has appeared on the list since the Scamtracker began. Greater London continued to record the highest number of scams with 1,000 Santander customers reporting a scam between July and September, totalling £2,550,789
  • The ‘Santander Quarterly Scamtracker’ charts the latest trends in Authorised Push Payment (APP) scams reported each quarter

The latest regional Santander Scamtracker charting the volume and value of scams impacting counties across the UK reveals that between July and September 2025, Surrey was the top county - outside of London - to be pummelled by scammers, with £1,035,906 stolen, a 17% increase in value since Q1 (January – March).

In comparison to Q2 (April – June), the total amount stolen across the top five regions in each quarter was down slightly by 11% from £3.2 million in Q2 to £2.85 million in the last quarter.

For the first time since the Scamtracker was launched in January, both Surrey and West Sussex made an appearance on the leaderboard. Interestingly, while Kent has seen a 28% decline in the volume of scams reported by residents compared to Q1, it has nonetheless appeared in the top five regions hit hardest by scammers in every quarter this year, whereas Essex and Somerset have appeared in two out of three previous quarterly Scamtrackers.

Top five regions ranked by scam value – July to September 2025:

Chris Ainsley, Head of Fraud Risk Management at Santander UK said: “Being scammed remains a postcode lottery, and while there is a clear trend showing that some counties are currently being hit harder than others, scammers don’t care where you live. If they can get you to part with your money they will – so don’t rest on your laurels that you’re not in a worst hit county, stay alert to these criminals and if something seems either too good to be true or not right – trust your gut and don’t be rushed into making a decision that you may come to regret.”
