Santander strengthens Cardiff University partnership with opening of newly refurbished branch

Santander’s newly refurbished branch at Cardiff University was officially opened yesterday by Matt Hutnell, Director of Santander Universities UK and University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Colin Riordan.

Professor Riordan, together with Mr Hutnell and the University Relationship Branch Manager Natalie Moore, cut a ribbon to welcome University staff, students and visitors to the branch located in the Students’ Union Building. Cardiff University has strong links with Santander after signing a partnership agreement in 2008 for £960,000 in funding over a nine year period.

The bank primarily supports student employability through internships and work placements with local SMEs, working alongside the University’s Careers and Employability team, as well as holding regular workshops to help students develop key skills including CV writing support. The funding also promotes student entrepreneurialism through the University’s annual SPARK competition and the Santander Entrepreneurship Awards.

Professor Riordan, Vice-Chancellor at Cardiff University, said: “I was delighted to welcome Matt Hutnell and his colleagues to the official opening of our newly refurbished Santander branch, which is already proving to be a great asset to the campus for our students, staff and visitors. Our partnership is a brilliant example of how two very different institutions can work together and we look forward to renewing our agreement later this year to coincide with Santander Universities’ 10th anniversary celebrations.”

Matt Hutnell, Director of Santander Universities UK, said: “Santander is committed to supporting higher education as well as local communities across the UK. It’s been great to welcome students and staff from the University into the branch, and to see first-hand the real impact of our joint programmes, in particular the internship scheme which is helping to improve the employability of young people in the region as well as helping local businesses access young talent.”

The refurbished branch offers a range of state of the art customer services which include access to digital banking with free Wi-Fi for customers to use their own mobile devices as well as special customer tablets and two digital ATMs.
