Santander renews partnership agreement with Glasgow Caledonian University

Susan Allen, Santander UK’s Head of Retail Distribution, made an official visit to Glasgow Caledonian University to meet with the Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Pamela Gillies, and to sign a three-year renewal agreement for further financial support.

Glasgow Caledonian University has strong links with Santander after signing a partnership agreement in 2009 with the Bank’s Universities division. During the signing ceremony, Susan Allen confirmed additional funding for the University to bring the total to close to £1m.

The support focuses on promoting international exchanges through scholarships and travel grants, encouraging student entrepreneurial activities, as well as funding for the Glasgow Caledonian University Magnusson Awards aimed at supporting students in fulfilling their dream projects such as creating a business, setting up a community project or travelling overseas to volunteer.

Susan Allen said: “Santander is committed to supporting higher education as well as local communities across the UK. The partnership with Glasgow Caledonian University is a great example of how two very different institutions can work together effectively. It has been great to meet with both staff and students and hear about their experiences and the real impact made by our joint programmes.”

In addition to meeting Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Pamela Gillies, Susan Allen also met with Professor Cam Donaldson, Vice-Principal of Research, as well as students who have benefited from the partnership, including those working with UHatch, the University’s new social enterprise incubator space, designed to assist entrepreneurial students, graduates and staff members.

Santander, through its Santander Universities division, maintains partnerships with close to 1,200 academic institutions in 20 countries. Santander Universities was introduced in the UK in 2007 and the bank is already collaborating with 82 Universities and Higher Education Institutions, with agreements focused on promoting international exchange, entrepreneurial activities and the mobility of students and researchers within the network.
