From 17 July to 30 September 2017, Santander’s 1|2|3 Lite Current Account customers will be eligible for five per cent cashback on all spend using Apple Pay, Android Pay and Samsung pay on their debit card. The new offer is in addition to the existing and ongoing cashback benefit of up to three per cent for household bills paid by direct debit on a 1|2|3 Lite Current Account.
Santander has calculated that customers with a mobile spend of £30 a day for the 76 days of the offer would receive cashback of £114 and a spend of £10 a day for the same period would earn £38 cashback.
Cashback will be credited to customers’ accounts by the end of November.
Matt Hall, Head of Banking and Unsecured Credit at Santander said: “Our 1|2|3 Lite Current Account is well suited to customers who regularly use digital banking. Cashback linked to Apple Pay, Android Pay and Samsung Pay is another innovative way we’re rewarding customers for banking with us. It will be paid into customers’ accounts by the end of November, which could be a useful bonus to cover some of the Christmas shopping.”
Santander was an early adopter of Apple, Android and Samsung Pay as they became available – in 2015, 2016 and 2017 respectively.
The number of outlets accepting mobile payments is growing rapidly with many retailers now allowing mobile spend over the standard £30 cap on contactless card purchases. This reflects the added security of mobile purchases where each transaction is customer verified using Touch ID or fingerprint.
