Cashback

For the first year after opening your account, you’ll earn 3% cashback on things you do every day like:

Your commute – trains, buses, TfL and taxis.
Topping up – petrol, diesel, LPG and electric vehicle (EV) charging away from home.
Eating out and eating in – restaurants, cafes, takeaways and takeaway deliveries.

Earn 0.25% cashback on everything else you buy

Cashback will be paid on to your credit card every month - so you don’t have to wait to enjoy it.

Will I always earn 3% cashback?

After year 1, you’ll earn 0.25% cashback on everything you buy.

How do I work out how much cashback I’ll earn?

Cashback depends on how retailers are categorised using something called Merchant Category Codes, or MCCs. For more information on what this means, check the cashback terms (PDF - 93 KB).

Things to keep in mind:

  • When eating out in pubs, bars and hotel restaurants you might not earn 3% cashback. That’s because those places are usually classified differently from restaurants and cafes.
  • There are some supermarket petrol stations where you might not earn 3% cashback, although most of them will qualify.
  • You may earn cashback on purchases made abroad too, but MCCs can vary by region, payment provider or how the merchant is set up. This means some overseas purchases may earn a different cashback rate than you expect. We can’t validate cashback earned on purchases made abroad.

Don’t worry though, you’ll still earn 0.25% cashback.

Anything else I need to know?

Some transactions aren't eligible.

Cashback will be paid into your account on the same day as your statement date.

Purchases and cash withdrawals abroad

  • You won’t be charged foreign transaction fees on purchases and cash withdrawals made abroad in the local currency. If you choose to pay in sterling, the retailer or bank will handle the conversion and may charge you a fee.
  • cash transaction fee of 3% (minimum £3) will be charged on all cash withdrawals, including those made abroad. You’ll be charged 29.9% p.a. interest on the cash you take out from the day it’s withdrawn.

Earn cashback quicker with additional cardholders

You can have up to 3 additional cardholders on your credit card. This means you could earn cashback more quickly on your account.

The additional cardholders must be close family members who live at the same address as you. You will be responsible for the use of and payments on the additional cards. If the additional cardholder isn't a Santander customer we may ask for ID for them.

Experience the world with Mastercard

  • Mastercard is accepted at more than 100m places worldwide so you can use your card wherever you see the Mastercard sign at home and abroad.
  • Priceless.com is available exclusively to Mastercard cardholders and offers access to incredible experiences and valuable everyday offers in the cities you live and travel to. Fuel your passions with one-of-a-kind, customised experiences, from culinary arts and culture, to music, sports and more. Register online at priceless.com to receive regular updates on how you can access these exclusive experiences.
  • To be one of the first to know about events and experiences and participate in prize draws, make sure you’re opted in to receive marketing messages from Santander.

The Rewards Credit Card gives you complete control with Mobile Banking.

Card controls

You can use Mobile Banking to help you take control of your card account.

  • Never worry about forgetting your PIN again – it’s ready to view any time in Mobile Banking.
  • You can temporarily freeze your card if you think you’ve lost it or it’s been stolen. You can unfreeze it if you find it again. This saves you the hassle of cancelling it and waiting for a new one.
  • You can block certain transactions such as gambling, online, international and contactless to protect yourself and your spending.
  • Your contactless card allows you to pay for things that cost up to £100, but you can lower this limit using our chat service in Mobile or Online Banking.

Minimum repayment

You must make at least the minimum repayment each month towards your credit card balance. The amount and due date will be on your statement.

Cashback paid into your account won’t count towards your minimum payment.

Direct Debits – never miss a payment

Setting up a Direct Debit means you’ll never miss a payment. There are 3 types of Direct Debit to choose from:

  • Full payment: pay off the entire balance each month.
  • Minimum payment: a percentage of your balance you must pay each month to keep your account up to date.
  • Fixed payment: an amount that you decide to pay off each month.

Contactless payments

All our credit cards are contactless, so making payments is secure, easy and convenient. You can also link your Santander credit card to your phone or smartwatch and pay wherever you see the contactless symbol. We support: Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay and Garmin Pay.

Key documents

When you apply, we’ll carry out a credit check. This will help us to decide the credit limit we can offer. We’ll tell you your credit limit once your application has been accepted.

You can use our eligibility checker to get an idea of your credit limit before you apply. This can help you decide if this credit card meets your needs.

Borrowing options

A credit card may not always be the best solution for you. We have other borrowing options such as overdrafts and personal loans. Plus there are additional loans for our existing mortgage customers.

Fraud protection

Our priority is to help protect you from falling victim to fraud or a scam. We have systems in place to detect unusual transactions on your account and online security measures to keep your money safe.

Here is an example based on spending £950 a month with our cashback credit card

Pre-Contractual Explanation

Here is a summary of the important information from the Pre-Contractual Explanation. The full version of this can be found in the Santander Rewards Credit Card Key Facts Document. Click on the link above to see this. You should read it before you apply.

Is this credit card right for your needs?

A credit card is more suitable for borrowing over a shorter period of time. There may be cheaper ways to borrow large amounts.

What are the interest rates and charges for the credit card?

With some credit cards, we offer 'introductory' interest rates and charges for a set period of time. Your introductory period starts from the day you open your account.

You should try to clear the balance on your card before your introductory period ends. This is because higher interest rates and charges will apply after an introductory period has stopped.

The interest rate and charges you have to pay depends on how you use your credit card. For example, we'll always charge a higher rate for taking out cash using your credit card.

What should you know about balance transfers?

We charge 3% of the amount of each balance transfer you make (minimum £5).

What’s the monthly fee for using the credit card?

We don’t charge a monthly fee for this credit card.

Can we change interest rates and charges?

We can change these rates and charges but we’ll tell you before we do.

How much do you have to pay each month, and when?

Each month, we'll give you a statement showing the minimum payment you'll need to pay for that month.

It will cost you more if you only make your minimum payments. The quicker you pay off your balance, the less it will cost you in the long run.

What happens if you don’t pay your payment on time, or miss a payment?

If you don't make a payment on time, or you miss a minimum payment, we'll charge a £12 fee. That means the total cost of your debt will grow, and we'll keep charging interest on the amounts you should've paid. We’ll also report this to credit reference agencies who’ll record it on your credit file. This will affect your credit rating and might make it more difficult for you to borrow in future.

If you miss multiple repayments you might have legal action brought against you. In the very worst case your debt might be secured against your house or your debt may be transferred to a debt recovery company. To avoid getting into this situation, please contact us if you're struggling to keep up with your payments.

Can you change your mind?

You have up to 14 days to decide if this is the right card for you, starting from the day after you receive your card. If you decide you no longer want your new credit card you must let us know and you must repay anything you owe.

Paper-free

  • Paper-free means we send your statements and other important information, including change of account terms and arrears notices, to your ‘Statements and documents’ in the Mobile Banking app or in Online Banking.
  • We may occasionally still need to send some correspondence by post.
  • Your account will be set to paper-free but after it’s opened you can ask to receive your information by post instead using Online or Mobile Banking, in a branch or by phone

To apply, you must answer yes to the following.

  • I don’t already have a Santander Rewards Credit Card.
  • I accept the Key Facts Document and Terms & Conditions.

Credit check

When you apply, a credit check will be carried out which will show on your credit file.

Your contact preferences

During the application you’ll be asked if you want to hear about products, services and offers that may be of interest. Please note the preferences you select will override any previous preferences given. If you’d like to amend those preferences please contact us at any time.

Credit limit increase preferences

During your application we’ll ask if you want us to increase your credit limit in the future:

  • If you answer yes, we’ll automatically increase your credit limit but we’ll let you know before the changes are made so you have the option to decline it
  • If you answer no, we’ll send you details of the increase and you’ll need to contact us to accept it

If you’d like to amend your preference please contact us at any time.

Before you apply for a credit card, please consider any future changes to your financial circumstances that may affect whether you can make your repayments. If your income is reducing and/or outgoings increasing, use the newer figures in your application so that we can make sure the credit card is affordable for you.

If you have Experian CreditLock or similar with another credit reference agency, you'll need to switch it off before you apply.
