What happens after I've applied for my personal loan?

For online applications
We'll email you after you've submitted your application to let you know we've received it. Shortly after, usually within a few minutes, you'll get a second email with our decision.

If your application is successful we'll send your credit agreement to you by first class post. You'll need to:

  • Sign the agreement
  • Photocopy any ID we might have asked for
  • Return the photocopied ID and signed agreement in the envelope we sent you with the agreement.

When you'll receive your loan
We'll usually pay your loan into your account within 24 hours of receiving your signed agreement with any ID we asked for.
The loan funds will be delayed if the agreement isn’t signed or we don’t have the correct ID.
 
If your application is unsuccessful
We'll send you a letter by first class post confirming your loan application was unsuccessful and providing more information about our decision.
 

For phone applications
We'll be able to tell you on the phone if we can offer you a Personal Loan or not.

If your application is successful we'll send the credit agreement to you by first class post. You'll need to:

  • Sign the agreement
  • Photocopy any ID we might have asked for
  • Return the photocopied ID and signed agreement in the envelope we sent you with the agreement.

Once your personal loan is open we'll send you a letter confirming your loan account number.

We'll usually pay your loan into your account within 24 hours of receiving your signed credit agreement with any ID we asked for. The loan funds will be delayed if the agreement isn't signed or we don't have the correct ID.

Checklist
I haven't received my confirmation or decision email. What should I do? 
   
We send the emails to the email address entered in your loan application form.
Check your trash or junk folders in case it's been put in there by mistake. It's also worth adding donotreplyloans@Santander.co.uk  to your email address book to help make sure our emails land in your inbox.

I haven't received a letter or a credit agreement. What should I do?   
If it's been more than 3 working days, not including bank holidays and weekends, you can call us on 0800 328 4321. We're open Monday to Friday, 8am-8pm and Saturdays 8am-6pm.

Remember to:

  • send photocopies, not originals
  • photocopy the front and back of documents
  • write your reference number, name and date of birth on each photocopy.

Why can't you open an account for me?  
We credit score your application using the information you provide, any information we already hold about you and information we get from credit reference agencies, such as Experian, Equifax and CallCredit.

We decide whether to lend to you based on your credit score and whether you meet our lending criteria. This may affect the APR we give you, meaning you pay a different amount of interest on your loan.

Unfortunately if you don’t meet the criteria we’re unable to offer you a loan.
