Fixed repayments for the life of your loan
Your loan repayment will be taken each month by Direct Debit on a day specified by you between the 1st and 28th of the month.

Annual loan statement
Each year, on the anniversary of your loan opening, you'll be sent a loan statement confirming details of the repayments made and repayments outstanding.

Early repayment
You may repay the loan in full or in part at any time before the final payment is due. Details of how to do this are in your agreement.

Further borrowing
If you already have a personal loan with us, you could be entitled to take out a further personal loan. You can either:

  • take out a new loan, so the first loan is paid off with the remainder of the new loan being paid in to your bank account. That way you only have one monthly repayment; or

  • keep your original loan going and take out a second loan for the amount you want to borrow. This would mean you have two monthly repayments.

If you choose to re-finance your existing loan, your new loan amount must be at least £1,000 more than your outstanding loan balance.

It is not possible to apply for further borrowing online through our website.

Everything you need to know before you apply
We recommend reading the information in the documents below before you apply. You may like to save or print them so you can refer to them in the future.

To view these documents, you may need to download Adobe Reader.

Pre-Contractual Explanation
We've provided a summary below of the important information that's contained in the Pre-Contractual Explanation. The full version of this can be found in the Personal Loans Key Facts Document which can be accessed via the link above. You should also read this before you apply.

What is a personal loan?
It's a fixed sum of money borrowed from us which is repaid in equal, fixed, monthly instalments over an agreed term. As long as you don't miss any payments the loan is fully repaid at the end of the loan term and is not secured against your home.

What checks do you need to do for me to get a personal loan with Santander?
To apply for a personal loan you must agree to us conducting a credit check on you. It's very important to provide accurate information in y our application - we might decline your application based on the results of your credit check, or if you have provided false information.

How much do I have to pay under the agreement?
You pay a fixed amount each month by Direct Debit (made up of the original loan amount and the interest charged). Your credit agreement will detail how much you pay (in total each month), and when the repayments will be due. We will send you an annual statement confirming repayments made and repayments outstanding.

What are the consequences if I do not keep up with repayments?
If you miss a repayment, we can deduct the missed payment and interest from your other accounts with us. We will also record details with a credit reference agency which could damage your credit rating.

If you miss multiple repayments, your credit rating can be damaged and you might have legal proceedings brought against you.

In the very worst case your debt may be secured against your house or your debt may be transferred to a debt management company.

To avoid getting into this situation, please contact us if you are having difficulties in making your repayments.

Are there any features of the agreement which may operate in a manner which may adversely affect me?
You should read all documentation provided to you and consider the information carefully before taking out a personal loan to make sure that it is right for you.

Your right to cancel
You can change your mind up to 14 days after you sign. If you do this, you must repay anything you owe.

Can I repay my personal loan early?
You may repay the loan in full or in part at any time before the final payment is due. Details of how to do this are in your agreement.

A personal loan is designed for borrowing a fixed amount of money over the full term of the loan, however it can be repaid early if you wish. When you make a partial repayment we will reduce the term of your loan. Alternatively, you could choose to reduce your monthly repayment amount and maintain your original loan term.

We will do a credit assessment of your circumstances when you apply. Credit available subject to status. We reserve the right to refuse any application and to refuse a loan for certain purposes. Information and rates correct as at 11.01.2016.

You can apply for a Personal Loan if you:

  • are at least 21 years old

  • are a permanent resident in the UK

  • have a regular gross annual income of at least £6,000

  • have a bank or building society account with a Direct Debit facility

  • have not been declared bankrupt, had a CCJ or an IVA within the last 6 years

Before applying for a personal loan, please make sure that you're comfortable that you will be able to make the monthly repayments for the duration of the loan term. You should consider the potential for any changes to your financial circumstances during this period.

You will need the following information to hand when completing your application:

  • addresses for the past 3 years

  • employer's address and postcode

  • monthly income and expenditure

  • The APR on all Santander personal loans is fixed for the duration of the loan term.

  • A credit search is a search made by us with a credit reference agency (such as Experian or Equifax) to assess your credit history. We use this information to help us decide whether we can lend you money.

We search your name and all personal address details that have been provided by you in your application. A record of the search will be recorded on your credit file, which means that other lenders will be able to see that you’ve applied for a loan with us. This can be important as some lenders take a negative view of too many credit applications on your file. As part of your application, we may request a search from more than one credit reference agency and we'll also take into consideration how you manage any Santander accounts you have.

A credit search uses the information in your application, such as:

    • your age

    • your job

    • any financial commitments you have
