  • Our insurance is Defaqto 5 Star rated for both unlimited buildings and contents cover, which Defaqto describes as one of the most comprehensive offerings in the market. We also have a 3 Star Rating for contents cover of up to £25,000 for properties with 3 bedrooms or less.

  • You get access to a UK-based claims team 24/7, 365 days a year, to make a new claim, with a named personal claims manager.

We will refund any cancellation fee up to £40 that you are charged by your existing provider when you take out Santander Home Insurance. A cancellation fee claim form is available in branch which contains the specific terms and conditions that apply. Please make sure you have a new policy in place with us before cancelling your existing one, so there are no gaps in your cover.

Some features of Santander Home Insurance:

  • Buildings cover for loss or damage to a property caused by certain events such as fire, storm or flood.

  • Contents cover for loss or damage to your belongings in the home caused by certain events such as theft or fire; or

  • Combined buildings and contents cover.

  • Unlimited buildings sum insured as standard.

  • Unlimited contents cover, or a £25,000 option for properties with 3 bedrooms or less.

  • Accidental damage is included as standard with contents insurance for damage to televisions and DVD players, and with buildings insurance for damage to fixed glass and sanitary ware.

  • No interest charged if you pay your premiums monthly by Direct Debit.

Optional extras for your home insurance are available for an additional cost:

  • Personal belongings cover - This provides a wider level of cover for your personal belongings, pedal cycles, money and credit cards for losses or damage in and away from the home, anywhere in the world.

  • Extra accidental damage cover -This provides additional cover for accidents around the home such as wine spilt on a carpet or sofa if you have contents cover or, if you have buildings cover, putting your foot through a ceiling when carrying out DIY.

  • Legal services cover - This could provide a lawyer, if you need one, and up to £50,000 in legal costs to pursue or defend disputes in court.

  • Home emergency cover (underwritten by Inter Partner Assistance SA) - This provides up to £1,000 per claim to cover parts, labour and VAT. If there's an emergency in your home that's covered by the policy, an approved tradesperson could take care of the repairs.

 

Important things to know about your cover, including policy exclusions and limitations that you need to be aware of. 
 
Here are some examples:

  • Damage caused by wear and tear or poor maintenance.

  • Damage caused by chewing, scratching, tearing or fouling by pets.

  • Certain loss or damage if you leave your home unoccupied for longer than the agreed number of days.

  • Gates and fences are excluded from storm damage claims.

You can find further details of these by reading the Policy Summary and the Policy Booklet. Cover is subject to terms and conditions, restrictions and exclusions. We reserve the right to refuse cover.

  • Limits apply for certain covers and will be shown in your policy schedule. For example, there is a limit of £1,000 per claim for theft of contents in your garden and a limit of £5,000 for tracing and accessing a water leak in your property.

  • You will have to pay the first part of most claims - this is known as an 'excess'. Your policy schedule will detail the excesses which apply to your policy.

  • If you cancel your policy with us there is a charge for the period of cover you have received. If you cancel the policy after the initial 14 day cooling off period an additional £25 cancellation fee will be charged (this fee is not applicable to the cancellation of Legal services or Home emergency cover).
