An interest-free and fee free Arranged Overdraft
Up to £2,000 interest-free while you’re studying. When you open your account you’ll get an Arranged Overdraft limit of £250 once you have provided proof that you are a student. To receive the increased overdraft all you need to do is pay-in £500 each academic term.

Interest on your account balance
You can start earning interest on your entire account balance as soon as have a balance of at least £100. And we’ll pay interest on the first £2,000 of your balance. Interest is calculated daily and we’ll pay it into your account each month.

How to get a 16-25 Railcard
To be eligible for the 16-25 Railcard, you simply need to:

  • be accepted for a new 1l2l3 Santander Student Current Account.

  • register for Online Banking.

  • use the account as your main current account, paying in at least £500 per academic term (for example from your income, student loan or grant). 

To order the Railcard, you need to:

  1. make sure you meet the eligibility criteria

  2. get your unique Railcard code by logging on to Online Banking. We’ll send you a secure message in Online Banking within 5 days of opening your account and registering for Online Banking.

  3. Upload a photo of yourself and enter your unique code at www.santander-railcard.co.uk 

Your unique code is valid for 60 days from the date of issue and cannot be re-issued once expired. You'll receive your 16-25
Railcard within 5 working days of completing your order.

Santander 16-25 Railcard important information

  • Before using your Railcard, please read the Santander 16-25 Railcard Terms and Conditions.

  • One Railcard per 1l2l3 Student Current Account.

  • The Railcard is not available with the International Student Current Account.

  • There is no cash alternative to the Railcard and it is not transferable to any other person.

  • The unique Railcard code must only be redeemed by the Santander 1l2l3 Student Current Account holder.

  • The Railcard will be issued and maintained by the Association of Train Operating Companies.

  • The Railcard can only be used in mainland Great Britain; that is England, Scotland and Wales. It can’t be used on train services in Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland.

  • Your email address will not be used for marketing purposes unless you have given us your permission to do so, but will be used to send service messages to you.

Please note: On completion of your course, or after a maximum of five years, your 1l2l3 Student Current Account will be automatically transferred to the 1l2l3 Graduate Current Account for three years and after that it'll be transferred to an Everyday Current Account, unless

Important information for existing customers
From 4 July 2014 we're making some changes to the Santander Student Current Account.

If you're an existing customer with a Santander Student Current Account it's extremely important that you read and
understand the changes, please visit Account Changes for information on changes to your account.  

Apply online for a 1|2|3 Student Current Account if you:

  • are aged 18 or over

  • live permanently in the UK

  • don’t have a Santander current account already. 

You must also;

  • be in your first year of an undergraduate course, an HND or nursing training that’s 2 years or longer or you have an unconditional offer for a course starting this academic year.

Or

  • be awaiting your A-level or Highers results - you can still apply and benefit from most of the great features of the 1|2|3 Student Current Account. However, you will not receive an initial overdraft until we can confirm your place at university with UCAS. We will be in touch every step of the way to keep you updated and to let you know if we need any more information from you.
