To be eligible

  • You must open and be accepted for a Student Current Account.
  • Use the account as your main account, paying in a minimum of £500 per term.
  • Register for Online Banking.

How to order your Santander 16-25 Railcard

Before you can order you need to:

  • be accepted for a Student Current Account from 24 June 2013, and;
  • register for Santander's Online Banking service.

To order the Santander 16-25 Railcard, follow these simple steps:


1. Ensure that you are registered for Santander’s Online Banking service.

If you haven’t already registered for Online Banking, you can register via using your debit card, or alternatively by calling 0845 972 4724. We will send these details to you within 7-10 working days. If you are already registered, you don’t need to register again.


2. Get your unique Railcard code by logging into Santander’s Online Banking.

We will send a message in your Online Banking which will contain your unique code. This message will be sent within 5 calendar days of your Student Current Account being opened, as long as you have registered for Online Banking. Your unique code will be valid for 60 days from the date of issue and cannot be re-issued once expired.


3. Visit

 Simply enter your unique code and upload a photograph of yourself on this website. You will receive a confirmation email within 1 working day to let you know your order has been received and tell you if your photo has been uploaded successfully. Your Railcard will be sent to you around 5 working days after your Railcard order completion

  • How long do I have to wait for my Santander 16-25 Railcard to arrive?

Your Santander 16-25 Railcard should arrive within 5 working days of your Santander 16-25 Railcard order.

  • What should I do if I do not receive my Santander 16-25 Railcard?

If you do not receive your Santander 16-25 Railcard you can email (don't send any personal information such as your account number) or call the Railcard Issuer on 0844 848 8010***.

  • Can I choose the address that my Santander 16-25 Railcard goes to?

When you make your order you can choose the address that you want the Santander 16-25 Railcard to be sent to.

  • Can I use my Santander 16-25 Railcard at any time of day?

Yes you can. However, for all journeys made between 4.30am and 10am Monday to Friday a minimum fare of £12 is payable. There is no minimum fare when you travel at weekends, on Public Holidays, or during July and August.

  • Can I use my Santander 16-25 Railcard on train services in Northern Ireland?

Your Santander 16-25 Railcard can only be used for discounts on the National Rail network in Great Britain; that is England, Scotland and Wales. It cannot be used on train services in Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland.  Residents of Northern Ireland can order a Santander 16-25 Railcard to use when they travel in Scotland, Wales or England.

  • What do I do if my Santander 16-25 Railcard is lost or damaged?

Visit and order a replacement.  There is an administration fee for this service. Please refer to the Terms and Conditions.

  • Can I buy tickets at a discounted rate before my Santander 16-25 Railcard arrives?

No, you will need to wait for your Santander 16-25 Railcard to arrive.

  • I am over 25 years old and in full time education - can I order a Santander 16-25 Railcard?

Yes, as long as you have opened a new Santander Student Account and fulfill the eligibility criteria above.

  • Do I need to renew my Santander 16-25 Railcard each year?

No, the Santander 16-25 Railcard is valid for 4 years. The expiry date is printed on the front of the Santander 16-25 Railcard.

> One Railcard per Student Current Account. Please ensure you read the Terms and Conditions before using your Railcard.

> The Railcard will be issued and maintained by the Association of Train Operating Companies.

> The Railcard is not available with the International Student Current Account.

> There is no cash alternative and the Railcard is not transferable to any other person.

> The unique Railcard code must only be redeemed by the Student Current Account holder. 

> The Railcard can only be used in mainland Great Britain; that is England, Scotland and Wales. It cannot be used on train services in Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland.

> Your email address will not be used for marketing purposes unless you have given us your permission to do so, but will be used to send service messages to you.
