Apply from the comfort of your own home
If you've had an offer accepted on a home or you're ready to remortgage to us and you've got a decision in principle, then you're ready to apply online for your mortgage.
Remember you need to be comfortable choosing a mortgage without receiving advice from us. We'll carry out a credit search(es) which could affect your credit rating. Before you start, make sure you've read a straightforward guide to your mortgage (pdf)
Why apply online?
All applications are subject to status and our lending criteria. This means that the amount we will lend you will depend on your individual circumstances, the type of property and the amount you borrow. For example, we may require a higher deposit if you are buying a flat or a new build property.

If you're buying a home it's a good idea to get a decision in principle before making an offer.
A decision in principle, also called an agreement in principle, confirms if we could lend you the amount you need. You'll need to get a decision in principle before applying online for a mortgage.
The decision in principle is free and valid for 60 days. We do a soft credit check on you, which doesn't affect your credit rating.
There's no obligation to then apply for a mortgage with us after you've got your decision in principle. However if you want to apply for a mortgage, you can apply online without receiving advice from us or you can get advice over the phone.
You should get a decision in principle before you've had an offer accepted on a property. However you can't apply online for a mortgage until you've had an offer accepted. This is because we ask you questions about the property you're buying, so it's essential to know your offer has been accepted.
You can apply for a mortgage with us in as little as an hour. However everyone's circumstances are different and therefore it could take longer.
Having everything to hand before you start will make applying quicker and you can save and come back to your application.
No. You can save and continue both your decision in principle and mortgage application, so you don't have to complete them in one go. However the mortgage application will 'time out' after 30 minutes of inactivity.
