You can use Samsung Pay by linking your Santander debit or credit card to your Samsung device so you can make secure mobile payments at any contactless terminal. *

What do I need to start using Samsung Pay?

  • You will need one of the following Samsung Galaxy devices:

    • S6, S6 edge,
       
    • S7, S7 edge
       
    • S8, S8+ 
       
    • Gear S3 Smartwatch
       
  • A Santander debit or credit card excluding ATM only cash cards, Visa Top-up Debit Card and Business VISA Electron Cards

Getting started

  • Download – your Samsung device may already come pre-loaded with Samsung Pay. Or you can go to the Samsung Galaxy App store to download it. For more information visit the Samsung website
  • Add a card – simply set up your fingerprint and a back up PIN. You can then use your device’s camera to scan in your Santander card details
  • Verify – we’ll send you a code to enter into your phone or device and Samsung Pay is ready to use

Making a payment

  • Pay in shops – launch Samsung Pay with a simple swipe up from the bottom edge of your screen and authorise your payment securely with your fingerprint. Place your device close to the contactless terminal to pay – and that's it . With the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ you can also authorise the payment using iris scanning.
  • Pay on TfL – Samsung Pay allows you to set a card up as a 'transport card' to use on TfL services. This option means you don't even need to wake your phone or verify with a fingerprint or PIN – simply touch the middle section of your phone (where the antenna is located) against the card reader. Security
Your accounts are safe if you lose your phone
- there's no need to cancel your debit or credit cards as the details aren’t stored in the Samsung device. However it’s important that you disable your cards using Samsung’s Find My Mobile or call us on 0800 068 6698 so that we can help you.

For lost and stolen cards, please call us on 0800 731 6666.  Lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you lose your cards, you can continue to use Samsung Pay while we arrange to replace your cards.

  • Yes, Samsung Pay is a simple and secure way to make mobile payments and is accepted virtually everywhere you can tap a contactless bank card. Launch Samsung Pay with a simple swipe up from the bottom edge of your screen and authorise your payment securely with your fingerprint. Users of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ can also authorise payments using the iris scanner on their phone.

     

    Place your device close to the contactless NFC terminal to pay – and that’s it.

     

    Samsung Pay is available with participating payment networks, banks and merchants and is only compatible with selected cards and Samsung devices.

  • Just take your phone along with your receipt and whatever you want the refund on. Shops will be able to refund any purchase made with Samsung Pay under the same conditions as they would a purchase made with a card or cash.

  • You can manage your Samsung Pay linked cards within your Samsung device.

     

    On your device, your cards and last 10 transactions can be seen in the app when you touch the card you used to pay.

     

    If you have more than one Santander card you can store them within the app. You can set up a default card within the app settings, but if you don’t, the last card you use will be the one that appears next time.

  • Samsung Pay will be accepted for pay as you go travel. You’ll need to consider the following:

    • You must touch in and out to pay the right fare (touch in only on buses and trams)
    • If you use both Samsung Pay and your contactless card on the same journey, you will be charged as separate payment devices (even if it’s the same card you have added to Samsung Pay). This means you could be charged maximum fares for two incomplete journeys and may not benefit from daily and weekly (Monday to Sunday) capping.
    • You must have enough battery life on the phone to complete their journey. If the battery runs out during a journey and you are unable to touch out at the end, you’ll be charged a maximum fare.
    • When your card expires, you’ll need to replace the Transport Card in Samsung Pay as soon as you receive a replacement card. It is not done automatically.

    Customers using Samsung Pay will be able to see their full journey and payment history by signing up for a contactless and Oyster account and adding the details of the payment card that they’ve linked to Samsung Pay.
     

  • Samsung Pay uses tokenization and Samsung KNOX to secure your payment information. Samsung KNOX scans to see if your phone is secure, and disables Samsung Pay if your phone is compromised in order to protect your payment information. With Samsung KNOX, you can be assured that your payment information is secured within a separate data vault, while your device is constantly monitored for signs of malicious attacks or vulnerabilities.

     

    Samsung Pay uses network tokenization technology that replaces your real card details with a dynamic digital token that is transmitted instead of your physical card’s number.

     

    Additionally, your fingerprint or a 4-digit PIN is required to authorise in-store purchases. On the new Galaxy S8 and S8+, you can also use iris scanning technology to keep your transactions secure. So your transactions remain secure, and your shopping stays safe.
