What are the main features of the new Santander Online Banking service?

The new Santander Online Banking service is a completely new service which has been designed to make it easy to service your Santander accounts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The service contains all the standard features of the current Online Banking service including the ability to move money between your accounts, pay people and bills, download your latest transactions and set up regular payments like standing orders and Direct Debits. Some features of the new Santander Online Banking service are outlined below, which we hope make your banking experience even more straight-forward:

  • Fresh new look: The new site features a simple navigation structure. The site has a number of tabs along the top of the site so you can easily navigate to the correct section. The tabs include ‘My accounts and transactions’ , ‘Payments’ and ‘Account requests’.
  • e-Documents: This feature allows you to view statements and other documents in PDF format online. You can also help the environment by turning off paper statements.
  • View and manage your credit card online from the same place: If you hold a Santander branded credit card, you will be able to view and manage your credit card online as well as order replacement cards and new PIN details, all from Online Banking.
  • One less password to remember: For certain high security transactions, such as making a payment to a new recipient, you will no longer need to enter a difficult to remember password. Instead we text you a One Time Passcode (OTP) and ask you to enter it on-screen.
  • Quick transfer: allows you to move money between accounts straight from the home page.
  • Faster Payments: The UK banking industry system that, when fully rolled out, will enable customers of participating banks to make many payments, over the telephone or via Internet banking, within hours rather than days.
  • Send and receive secure messages: A way of sending messages to us, which are responded to within Online Banking.
  • Order debit card PIN or replacement card.
  • Change personal details online: Provides the capability to notify us of a new address, contact number or email address securely and safely online.

Why have you made these changes?

We have made the changes to the Online Banking service for two important reasons.

  1. As Alliance & Leicester and Santander come together we want to make sure that customers get a consistent and rewarding online banking experience - this is why we have built a combined service, and have taken the best parts of both existing services.
  2. We have listened to our customers and added new facilities that will help make the management of your bank account online better, by adding items like paperless statements, improved security and the option to manage your Santander credit card.

I currently use the Alliance & Leicester Internet Banking service. When can I start using the new service?

If you currently use the Alliance & Leicester internet banking service you will need to move onto the new Santander Online Banking service.

Moving will be easy, as you will not need to change any of your log on details. Due to the large amount of customers that will need to move services we will be managing the process in groups of customers at a time.

Don't worry we will guide you through the process of moving to the new Santander Online Banking service, when the time comes.

I currently use the Santander e-banking service. When can I start using the new service?

If you are currently already banking online with Santander you will be invited to move over to the new service as part of a gradual customer migration. Moving will be easy, as you will not need to change any of your log on details. Due to the large amount of customers that will need to move we will be managing the process in groups of customers at a time.

What should I do if I service my Santander credit card somewhere else today?

If you currently service your Santander credit card in a separate site, the good news is that you can now do all this (and more) from Santander Online Banking which offers the same capability and level of service, including viewing your latest statement, managing an automatic payment for your outstanding balance each month, ordering a replacement card, and much more. Initially you will need to have at least one other savings or bank account product (excluding Bonds and Student bank accounts) with us in order to move across to see all your accounts in one place.

I am a Business Banking customer, what does this mean for me?

The new Santander Online Banking service will be rolled out to retail customers first, but a version for our Business customers will follow. All customers will be notified before any changes are introduced.
