The Basic Current Account has been designed to help you manage your money.
You’ll be able to get your income paid in and pay your bills by Direct Debit, standing order or Faster Payment from the Basic Current Account.
For those times when you want the flexibility of spending money in shops or online, you'll also get a Top-up Visa Debit Card. This is linked to the Basic Current Account and you can top it up by transferring money from your Basic Current Account, allowing you to keep the money you’ve set aside for your bills and your spending separate.
The Basic Current Account is available to customers legally living in the European Union. All transactions on the account are made in pound sterling, therefore when the account is used outside the UK you may incur fees. Also when you are transferring money onto your top-up card this will also be done in pound sterling.
Why choose the Basic Current Account?
With the Basic Current Account you can have your salary or other income paid in, and pay bills such as your rent or mortgage by Direct Debit or standing order from the account. You'll find your sort code and account number on your cash card so you can set up Direct Debits.
When you know how much you'll need for your bills or other regular payments, you can transfer any money left to your separate top-up account to spend on your top-up debit card in shops, online or withdraw cash. You can also move money back to the Basic Current Account at any time.

A statement period usually runs from the monthly anniversary of the date you opened or transferred your account, unless you've asked for it to be changed.
For example, if your statement date is the 18th of the month, your monthly statement period will cover the period from the 18th of one month until the 17th of the next.
Where we talk about a month in relation to your account, we're referring to the monthly statement period. When we ask you to fund the account each month, or talk about paying cashback monthly - for example - we mean the monthly statement period.
Please note we are making changes to how we send paper statements. For more information please visit the changes to your account page. These changes do not affect your monthly statement period.
