Dealing with dementia
When someone has been diagnosed with dementia, it can come as a shock to both them and their family. It's natural that it might make them feel worried about the impact it may have on their lives.

It can also be difficult to tell if someone has dementia as it affects everyone differently. So if you have dementia, or are the carer for someone with dementia and you think it would help for us to know please speak to us.

In December 2014, we joined the Dementia Friends programme. This is an initiative set up by the Alzheimer’s Society to help raise awareness of the effects of dementia by providing an understanding of the impacts of this disease, and helping us to understand how we can help our customers.

Here are some of the ways we can help you:

  • If you feel you need help with your day-to-day banking, you can register someone you trust as an attorney on your account. For more information on this, take a look at our Power of Attorney information page

  • We appreciate you may not want to discuss your private matters at the branch counter, so we will make sure you can talk to one of our advisers away from the main banking hall, just ask a branch adviser for the use of a private room.

  • If you feel you don't want to talk to someone over the telephone or in the branch, you can send us a secure message using Online Banking

Get in touch
If you'd like to make us aware if you've been diagnosed or are caring for someone with dementia and would like to discuss what options we have available to help support you and your family at this time, please call us on 0800 9 123 123 (Monday to Saturday 7am to 9pm or Sunday 8am to 9pm) or send a secure message to us though Online Banking and we can arrange for a call back from one of our advisers. Alternatively you can visit one of our branches
