Interest on your account balance

Apply in branch

You can apply for the 1|2|3 Postgraduate Current Account at your local Santander branch if you:

  • are aged 19 or over.

  • live permanently in the UK.

  • are on a full time course, with a minimum of one year, at a university or college of higher education. 

For example, your course could be a Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Science (MSc), Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D), Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). Please note this list is not exhaustive.

You'll also need to use your 1|2|3 Postgraduate Current Account as your main account, paying in your main form of income, for example your student loan, grants, parental contribution, and/or income from any employment.

Remember to bring proof of your name and address.

To enjoy the benefits of our 1|2|3 Graduate Current Account, you'll either need to be working or have a confirmed job offer. You'll also need to use your 1|2|3 Graduate Current Account as your main account, paying in your salary each month.

The International Student Current Account gives you all the essentials you need, an in-credit interest rate and a free foreign cheque deposit per month, for just £5 a month.

As long as £50 goes into your account each month and you pay a £5 monthly account fee you'll get the following:
 

  • 3% AER/2.96% gross (variable) on balances up to £500.

  • One free deposit of a foreign cheque each month.

  • A Visa debit card for making purchases and using in cash machines.

  • Withdraw up to £300 a day from any Santander or Link cash machine.

  • No overdraft - so you don't need to worry about spending money you don't have.

  • Free text message and email alerts letting you know when something has happened on your account.

In-credit interest rate
Interest is calculated daily and paid monthly. You won't receive interest on any amount over £500, or on your whole balance (up to £500) if you do not pay at least £50 into your account each month.

You can apply for the International Student Current Account at your local Santander branch. Remember to bring proof of your name and address and proof of your higher education course.


You'll need to let us know when your course finishes or if you leave your course so we can close the account for you. You can let us know by visiting your local branch or by calling us on 08459 724 724*.

  • The easiest way to change your address and contact details (including your telephone number and email address) is to do it via Online Banking. It will be changed instantly.

    You can also change it by telephone or in branch.

    1. Online Banking (instant):
    Log on and update your details instantly from within the "My Details & Settings" tab.

    • Choose 'Change personal details' from the left hand menu and then click 'Change address'.
    • Enter your new details (including postcode) and follow the onscreen instructions.
    • Please note: You will need to enter a One Time Passcode (OTP) to complete this change, so make sure you have your mobile phone to hand.

    2. By telephone (for current account and savings customers):

    • Call our Telephone Banking line on 08459 724 724. Lines open 7am to 11pm Monday to Saturday and 8am to 10pm Sundays.

    3. In branch:

    • Complete a change of details form by
      • Printing off and completing the Change of details form *
      • Requesting a copy of the form by calling us on 08459 724 724. Lines open 7am-11pm Monday to Saturday and 8am-10pm on Sundays.
      • Collect a form from your local branch.
    • Take the form to your local branch together with relevant account documentation:
      • Your cash card, passbook or certificate and;
      • Signature bearing identification such as a full UK driving licence or valid EEA passport (this includes UK passport).

    Important information for customers with alerts: If you have Account alerts set up on your account and you want these to be sent to your updated telephone number and/or email address, then you will need to amend your alerts via the 'Account Services'tab in Online Banking as they are not automatically updated when you change your details.

  • You can use your Santander debit card abroad to make purchases and to withdraw local currency from cash machines as and when you need it, simply look for the Visa or MasterCard signs, and feel secure knowing that it's a safer option than carrying large amounts of cash or traveller's cheques.
