Transfer from £100 up to 95% of your credit limit.  You can't transfer balances from other Santander Group accounts (including cahoot). At the end of the 0% periods, interest will become payable at your standard balance transfer or purchase rate.

Balance transfer limits
Transfer from £100 up to 95% of your credit limit. You can't transfer balances from other Santander Group accounts (including cahoot).
If the total transfer you want to make is above your available credit limit, we may allow you to transfer part of this amount.

Balance transfer fee
A handling fee of 3% (minimum £5) will be charged for each balance transfer. The fee isn't refundable once we've completed the balance transfer.

Up to 56 days interest-free credit on purchases when you pay your balance in full and on time each month.

Interest rates

  • Balance transfers: you'll pay 0% for 29 months then the standard balance transfer rate of 18.9% p.a.

  • Purchases:  you'll pay 0% for 3 months then the standard purchase rate of 18.9% p.a.  After the 3 month promotional period has ended, any new purchases you make or any purchases not paid off will incur interest at 18.9% p.a. (variable).

  • Cash transactions: you'll pay 29.9% p.a.

Minimum repayments
During the 0% period, you must make repayments each month for at least the minimum payment amount. You'll find details of how the minimum payment is calculated in the Summary Box and Key Information.

After the introductory period
At the end of the 0% period, if you haven't paid off the amount of the balance transfer and/or the purchases in full, interest will become payable on the remaining amount at your standard balance transfer or purchase rate. The standard interest rates will be significantly higher than the introductory rates and will increase the amount you have to pay each month. This could also mean that it may take you longer to repay any outstanding balance.

Is a credit card right for my borrowing needs?
A credit card can be very expensive if you're not careful how you use it. It is best used when you can pay off the full balance quickly.

What interest and charges might apply?
Cash withdrawals are more expensive than purchases because you start paying interest immediately and will be charged a fee for each cash withdrawal.
Overseas cash withdrawals or purchases incur additional charges to those made in the UK.
We don't charge an annual fee for this credit card but we do charge a balance transfer fee of 3% (minimum £5) on any balance transfers made during the introductory period. We can change the fees (including the annual fee) and interest rates on your card. We'll let you know in advance if we plan to do this.
Any introductory rate we offer you starts from the date your account is opened.

How much will I have to pay under the credit agreement?
It will cost you more if you only make your monthly minimum payments. It will cost you less if you pay off the full balance quickly.

What are the consequences to me if I do not keep up repayments?
If you miss your minimum payment you get charged a £12 fee, plus the interest keeps building up, so you end up paying back more. Repeatedly missing your minimum payments could potentially result in legal action, paying legal costs and your credit rating could go down which would make it harder to get future credit. In the very worst case your debt might be secured against your house, which could be repossessed, or you could be declared bankrupt.

Changing your mind.
You can change your mind up to 14 days after you receive your card. If you do this, you must repay anything you owe.

You can apply for the Long Term Balance Transfer Credit Card if you:

  • are 18 or over

  • live in the UK permanently

  • do not already hold another Santander balance transfer credit card. Only one Santander balance transfer credit card can be held at any one time.

  • To report a lost or stolen credit card or if you believe you’ve been a victim of credit card fraud please call 0845 602 1582 (+44 1512 648 725 from abroad). Lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • Charges apply when you use your credit card abroad to make purchases and to withdraw local currency from cash machines:

     

    • Making purchases abroad or online in a currency other than sterling.
      You will be charged a non-sterling transaction fee of 2.95% of the value of the transaction.

     

    • Withdrawing cash from a bank or cash machine or buying foreign currency or travellers cheques in a currency other than sterling.
      You will be charged a non-sterling transaction fee of 2.95% of the value plus a non-sterling cash fee of 3% of the value (at least £3).

     

    • No interest free period on cash withdrawals.
      Interest will be charged from the date of withdrawal.

    Top tip
    If given the option of paying in either local currency or sterling, ensure you choose local currency unless you are certain that the exchange rate is more favourable. If you choose sterling, it means that the retailer or bank will handle the conversion and may charge you a conversion fee, a foreign usage fee, or both.

     

    Zero Credit Card customers
    No cash fees or non-sterling transactions fees will be charged to Santander Zero Credit Card customers (please note, the Santander Zero Credit Card is not currently on sale to new customers).

     

    Before travelling overseas

    • Make sure your contact details are up to date, including your mobile telephone number. The easiest way to do this is via Online Banking. Alternatively, you can call us on 0845 602 1582 or visit a branch. We will continue to monitor your account for fraud and unusual transactions while you are abroad. We will contact you if we detect unusual activity. If you keep your mobile phone with you, you will be able to confirm genuine transactions as soon as we call

    • Ensure you know your PIN number. If your card does not have a PIN, please contact us before travelling on 0845 602 1582.

    • If you are travelling outside the EU, let us know so we can place a note on your account to say you are travelling. This is not a requirement, but may help if you are concerned about your card use while abroad. Please speak to an advisor on 0845 602 1582 to do this

    You do not need to tell us when you are travelling in the EU. As the EU has a high coverage of chip and pin, we are able to identify you and will monitor for fraud in the same way as if you were paying in the UK.

  • You can activate your credit card online by logging on to Online Banking or by calling 0845 603 8750. Lines are open 9am to 8pm Monday to Thursday, 9am to 7pm Friday and 9am to 5pm Saturday.

     

    Additional cardholders should call on the number above to activate their card.

  • You can view your balance and credit limit online by logging on to Online Banking.

     

    You can also get this information by calling 0845 602 1582.

     

    To request a change to your credit limit on your account call 0845 602 1582. Lines are open 7am to 11pm Monday to Sunday.

  • The easiest way to change your address and contact details (including your telephone number and email address) is to do it via Online Banking. It will be changed instantly.

     

    You can also change it by telephone or in branch.

     

    1. Online Banking (instant):
    Log on and update your details instantly from within the "My Details & Settings" tab. 

    • Choose 'Change personal details' from the left hand menu and then click 'Change address'.

       

    • Enter your new details (including postcode) and follow the onscreen instructions.

       

    • Please note: You will need to enter a One Time Passcode (OTP) to complete this change, so make sure you have your mobile phone to hand.
       

    2. By telephone (for current account and savings customers):

    • Call our Telephone Banking line on 08459 724 724. Lines open 7am to 11pm Monday to Saturday and 8am to 10pmSundays.

       

    3. In branch:

    • Complete a change of details form by

      • Printing off and completing the Change of details form *

      • Requesting a copy of the form by calling us on 08459 724 724. Lines open 7am-11pm Monday to Saturday and 8am-10pm on Sundays.

      • Collect a form from your local branch.
         

    • Take the form to your local branch together with relevant account documentation:

      • Your cash card, passbook or certificate and;

      • Signature bearing identification such as a full UK driving licence or valid EEA passport (this includes UK passport).
