Savings and Investments explained

It's easy to get a little confused when choosing a new savings or investments product. There are many different types of savings and investments out there. But which is right for you?

Santander UK Savings Accounts

Enjoy a good rate and peace of mind - but still have access to your money. Choose between five types of Santander savings accounts to meet your savings needs.

Fixed Rate Bonds - The simple ideas are often the best. Put your money away for a fixed period of a year or more, with the option to choose monthly or annual interest.

ISAs - Every year we each get an ISA allowance to encourage us to save tax efficiently. So make sure you take advantage of yours and get your money working as hard as possible. We have a range of cash ISAs offering different levels of access. Up until 5 April 2013 you can invest up to £11,280 in an ISA, of which up to £5,640 can be saved into a cash ISA.

Instant Access - With flexible account features and easy access to your money whenever you need it, Instant Access savings accounts provide an easy way to start saving. With options to manage your account the way you want: in branch, online, by phone or by post.

Children's Savings - Santander also offers savings specifically designed for you to save for a child's future or let them manage their own savings.

Investments

Investments (rather than savings) provide the potential to earn higher returns over the medium to long term.  Investments are designed to be held over a minimum of five years and generally represent a higher risk than savings.

Index Linked Savings Bonds - These fixed term deposit bonds give you the potential to outperform standard fixed rate savings bonds, by linking your interest return to the performance of an index.
