Savings and Investments explained
It’s easy to get scared by which savings and investments products to choose. There are many different types of savings and investments out there. But which is right for you?
Our range of savings and investments is designed to suit your very own financial goals – making the most of your money short or long term.
Santander Savings Accounts
Enjoy a good rate and peace of mind – but still have access to your money. Choose between five types of Santander savings accounts to meet your savings needs.
Instant Access – Santander offers a variety of great interest rates and flexible account features, as well as easy access to your money.
Reward Savings – These accounts make sense for when you have a specific goal, or just need a little extra encouragement to save by being rewarded for leaving money untouched.
ISAs – A great way to save where the returns are free of personal tax each year you get a tax free savings allowance to make the most of. Santander’s range of ISAs offer different levels of control and access while maximising returns.
Fixed Rate Savings Bonds – Santander’s range of Fixed Rate Bonds let you lock your money away for a fixed period of time offering great returns and the security of knowing your rate won’t change even if interest rates do.
Children's Savings – Santander also has a range of savings specifically designed for you to save for a child’s future or let them manage their own savings.
Investments
Investments are medium to long term ways to earn potentially higher returns. You can choose guaranteed returns or, if you’re willing to accept a higher level of risk, the potential for growth is higher too.
Guaranteed Investments – These guarantee that your money will be returned at the end of the term. Depending on which product you choose, they can also offer other guarantees – such as a regular income at a set level or minimum level of growth in addition to the return of your capital.
Non Guaranteed Investments – Ideally these should be longer term because values can rise and fall in the short term. Some of the best fund managers in the world are used to balance risk against returns.
Investments ISA – You can invest up to £10,200 in an Investments ISA each tax year less any money already invested in a Cash ISA, and you won’t have to pay tax when you cash it in. Santander lets you invest in most of our investments this way.
Premium Investments – Our wealth management service offers a highly personalised service with a dedicated financial adviser.
Stakeholder Pension - This is one of the most tax efficient ways to save because the Government adds tax relief to the contributions you make. For example, for every £80 you put in they’ll add £20 in tax relief. And if you’re a higher rate taxpayer you can claim an additional amount through Self Assessment returns. Contributions are flexible – you can pay what you want when you want from £20 upwards. This product is provided by Royal London.
