Your Guide to the Documents we need to see - Santander Anti Money Laundering Regulations

If you are opening an Santander Business account, we need to verify your personal identity and we may need to verify the existence of your business.
 
Personal Identity

You need to send us a clear black and white photocopy of 2 separate documents; one from List 1; a different document from List 2.

Photocopies must contain your photograph, reference details, transactions and any current UK entry or residence visas where applicable.

List 1

  • Valid Passport
  • Valid UK Photo card Driving Licence
  • Valid UK old style Driving Licence (not provisional)
  • EEA or Switzerland National Identity Card
  • Northern Ireland Voters Card
  • UK issued identity card
  • Entitlement to State / Local Authority benefit**
  • Entitlement to Tax Credit**
  • Entitlement to pension from the DWP
  • Entitlement to educational grant / loan**
  • Entitlement to other government / Local Authority grant**
  • HMRC (IR) coding / assessment / statement / Tax Credit**
  • Birth Certificate (under 18's only)
  • NHS Medical Card (under 18's only)
  • Adoption certificate (under 18's only)
  • Young persons PASS card (under 18's only)


List 2

  • Valid Passport

  • Instrument of a court appointment eg: Probate, Court Registered POA
  • Council Tax bill / demand letter**
  • Bank statement (not internet printed)*
  • Credit card statement (not internet printed)*
  • Utility bill (not mobile phone, satellite / cable TV or internet printed bills)*
  • Local council rent card or tenancy agreement**
  • Pension / benefit correspondence from DWP**
  • HMRC (IR) correspondence including name, address and permanent NI number
  • Confirmation from work / school / college / university / care institution (students and under 18s only)*
  • UCAS letter (students only)*
  • Birth Certificate (under 18's only)
  • NHS Medical Card (under 18's only)
  • Adoption certificate (under 18's only)
  • Young persons PASS card (under 18's only)

Business Verification

Sole Trader or Partnerships of five or less where the trading addressdoes not match the personal address of the Sole Trader or one ofthe Partners in the organisation OR Limited Companies, PLCs orLimited Liability Partnerships where the trading address does notmatch the registered address, please provide one document fromthe list below:

  • A letter from an accountant or solicitor confirming the business trading address


The letter must be on your solicitor / accountants headed paper and must confirm the following:

            - That they act for your business and not you as an individual

            - That your business has started trading, or will start trading on a specific date provided

*Please note that your solicitor / accountant must be a member of a recognised professional body (Solicitors - the Law Society; The Law Society of Scotland; the Law Society of Northern Ireland.  Accountants - ACCA; ICAEW; ICAS or CIMA)

The letter must be under 3 months old

  • An inland Revenue or VAT invoice to the trading address


The invoice must be in your business name and be addressed to your business at the trading address. The invoice must be under 12 months old.

  • A utility bill


The bill must be addressed to the business at the trading address and must be under 3 months old

  • A business banking statement


The statement must be addressed to the business at the trading address and must be under 3 months old

  • An American Express, MasterCard, or Visa Statement


The statement must be addressed to the business at the trading address and must be under 3 months old

  • Fire Certificate


The certificate must be in respect of the business at the trading address and be under 12 months old

  • Health & Safety Certificate


The certificate must be in respect of the business at the trading address and be under 12 months old

  • The signed copy of the Lease Agreement


This can be either in your business name or in your name if an intention to trade from the premises is detailed in the lease

 

Partnerships, where there are more than 5 partners

  • A letter containing a list of all current partners which must be on business letterhead paper


Clubs and Societies

  • A copy of a signed meeting record authorising the opening of the account , which must be recorded on club or society headed paper


Private Limited Company, PLC and Limited Liability Partnership

  • Other than the documentation requirements as detailed above, no

further documentary evidence is required, however if the Directors/

Secretary/Designated Members details have recently changed, copies

of forms 288a/b/c or LLP288a/b/c should be supplied as appropriate.

Clubs and Societies

  • A copy of the signed meeting record authorising the opening of the account.


Trusts

  • Letter from Solicitor, notary or Certified Accountant confirming existence of the trust and specifying all parties to the trust or copy of the trust deed.


Pension Schemes

  • A letter from HMRC dated less than one year confirming HMRC approval.
