How to open a Super Bond?

Our financial advisors are trained to help you understand your investment and protection needs and will be able to give you further information on Super Bonds, including interest rates and maturity dates. You can find your most convenient branch using our branch finder. If you’d prefer, you can make an appointment to speak with an advisor at your local branch by calling 0845 765 4321. Remember, you'll need to bring some proof of your name and address. See a list of acceptable ID for taking into a branch.

What are qualifying investments?

  • In order to be eligible for a Super Bond, you must put at least the same amount in a qualifying investment.

  • Qualifying investments include all on sale single premium investments from our Premium, Portfolio, Capital Guaranteed* and Pensions ranges. Individual terms and conditions apply to each qualifying investment, including minimum opening amounts and investment periods.

*The capital guarantee is provided by Santander Guarantee Company and depends on the continued solvency of Santander UK plc. The capital guarantee only applies if the investment is held to the end of its term.

Why choose a Super Bond?

  • Earn a very competitive fixed rate of interest on your lump sum savings.

  • You can choose to receive your Super Bond interest monthly or at maturity.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does it work?

When you invest in a qualifying investment, Super Bond allows you to put up to the same amount of money, up to £2 million, in a fixed rate bond with an enhanced interest rate.  Minimum amounts for investments vary by product.

Super Bond offers a fixed rate of interest and you can choose to have your interest paid monthly or at maturity. You can’t add to your Super Bond once it is open, so pay in as much as you can at the start.

Can I access my money?

Yes, if you need to you can access the entire balance held in your Super Bond without charge (partial withdrawals are not allowed); but please remember that for early withdrawals in investments you may get back less than you paid in. We recommend that you speak to one of our advisers before deciding.

If you close your qualifying investment whilst earning the enhanced rate of interest in Super Bond, your Super Bond will automatically change to a Flexible Card Saver or similar savings account, unless at the time you decide to open another qualifying investment with Santander.

What happens when my Super Bond matures?

Your money will be paid to you as per the instructions you provide pre-maturity. Where no instructions are received we will transfer your money to a Bond Default Account for safe keeping until we hear from you.
